What this site is, and is not

Enquiries are not bookings

Sending an enquiry through this site starts a conversation. It does not reserve a place, hold a date or create a contract, and no payment is taken at that point. If a trip goes ahead you will receive full booking conditions in writing, and you will have agreed to them before anything is due.

Itineraries and dates

The trips described here are planned around real places, seasons and festivals, but they are subject to change. Roads close, rivers rise, festivals move with the calendar, and a community may decide it would rather not host visitors on a particular occasion. When that happens the community decides, not us, and we will tell you straight away.

Where a price is not shown, it has not been set. We would rather show nothing than publish a figure we have not agreed with the people who will be paid out of it.

Travel is your responsibility

Visas, passports, vaccinations and travel insurance are yours to arrange, and insurance covering the activity you are booked on is required rather than advised. Mountain travel in northern Pakistan carries real risk, including altitude, weather, rockfall and road conditions, and no itinerary on this site pretends otherwise.

Text and photography here belong to Folk Whisperings or to the people credited on the credits page. Quote us, link to us and teach from us freely. Ask before republishing photographs or field recordings, because the permission for those often sits with the community rather than with us.

We describe living cultures, and living cultures are not uniform. Descriptions here reflect the accounts given to us and may not match every household in every valley. Corrections are welcome and acted on.

This page is written in plain language rather than legal drafting. Formal booking conditions are issued separately with each confirmed trip.
